The only way to get a decent shot was to be right in front of them or really tight crops with a super telephoto. So I ended up shooting candid "portraits" more or less.
I prefer my 70-200 equivalent lens more for parades now. But if I'm in a particularly bad spot, I'll pull out the mirror lens. It also has 1:3 magification, which is pretty decent for some macro and getting tight shots of some birbs..
