I think the market is finally ready for a real camera on the back of their phone, it's stupid to put multiple 1/3" sensors with multiple lenses when they're all shitty. Just one 1" sensor with a pancake lens as included would outperform the standard phone camera setups. I think Huawei is headed in the right direction but no one seems to want any bulk in their designs like picrel.
With octa core phone processors being so cheap now it could even do raw 4k probably, or at least compressed 4k with raw HD.
The Panasonic cm1 wasn't that long ago though, maybe with an interchangeable lens system and more dials it would finally fly, especially with the current state of mobile raw editors.
It might be that it came from a camera company and not one of the big phone companies, they would need the aggressive marketing and demo models in att/TMobile/sprint/Verizon stores. Goddamnit Samsung has both the camera and phone marketing resources to pull this off now.
Maybe Apple needs to be the one to actually implement it though since it seems like once they do it it becomes standard.
