Key is having a sharp image to begin with and not going nuts on contrast, sharpening, texture, clarity, etc. In fact, I'll isolate the background and lower texture and clarity to keep noise at the minimum.
Of course, the real answer is shooting in daylight with a reasonable ISO, but I can't seem to get the wildlife on board with the idea.
