This is from the same night and I definitely did not put the filter in while out shooting, it's very finicky to take out and put back in. I guess the LEDs or whatever inside that 76 sign just don't emit infrared lights.
I also suspect that it's the light bouncing of the sensor, then off the the rear element of the lens and back onto the sensor again.

The closest thing I own to a telephoto for the mount is a 50-150 and it's only marginally recessed. If I ever get one that sits further back I'll try it again. I did experiment briefly with doing long exposure night shots with the Foveon though and it performed beautifully. I didn't have the same issue which confuses me a bit. But it did suffer from mirror slap below 1/15th of a second. I ordered a tripod with a weight hook on it and I'm going to see about doing something with that.
