I don't know a good replacement for a piece of film for that technique. You can use the bit that sticks out of a fresh roll if you're careful, though.
I feel like I should post a pic when I post so here's one. It's 35 mm. HP5 shot in my GW690ii
I just wanted to see if I could. It was actually more of a bother than I expected since the shutter won't fire unless the camera thinks there's a roll of 120 film in it. I spooled a strip of 35 mm. film with the backing paper from a 120 roll in the darkroom so the paper would fool the camera. Kind of a hassle.
