if canon had the same design expertise as samsung or apple, they could probably cram 35mm sensors into GR sized bodies, but only sony managed this a scant few times and every attempt had major reliability issues that boiled down to the parts and materials being of subpar, china-tier quality. It would even be possible to make them ILCs and make the pro bazooka lens-ready grip an accessory that expanded battery, cards, and i/o via a hidden couple of serial ports without making the body any bigger than a classic film SLR.
