Your image is better because you found a spot with a ton of additional light sources (bridge lights and bus) so your settings worked out for you. His was taken on a mostly dark street corner with no thought given to pleasing light. If he moved a bit closer those settings would make sense since the shop lights would help him out but he didn't.
