I bought a D5100 new and used it for 10 years.
Got all of my best shots with it.
1: It's decent quality, doesn't look dated.
2: IT TAKES ALL OLD NIKON LENSES
That second reason is the real king shit of these 3xxx and 5xxx models. They can accept all NIKKOR glass, including pre-Ai lenses, which give sharp unique shots for dirt cheap. Shooting in full manual mode is damn fun.
I bought a whole new set of AF lenses and a FX Nikon and yet I have never had as much fun or as good results with them as I did with my D5100 and 1960's glass. Highly recommended.
