They are sometimes reddish-pink and a bit darker than the rest of the white highlights. they are most common in clouds and when the sky is breaking through leaves etc. I have to adjust the gain by reducing red, thereby making highlights tealish-blue and it makes them look as if they had been dipped in toothpaste.

I try to avoid this by underexposing and using zebras, but that often leads to the subject being horribly dark. Practically, I can't shoot with bright backgrounds.
Is this because of my camera, my lens or something else? Could a filter fix this?
