I'm sick of taking shitty photos on my half-broken phone camera (pic rel) and I have some dosh to throw around so I'm looking at getting a used DSLR and a couple of lenses. However, ruggedness and water/weatherproofing is something of a concern for me because when considering my needs I've realized that most of the times I've caught myself thinking "wow, I wish I had an actual camera" I'm outdoors and often in inclement weather and I don't want to shit up my investment because I'm taking photos on a sailboat and get a little wet. I've heard good things about the durability of Olympus and Pentax cameras in this regard, but looking around online hasn't gotten me shit; it seems like every result is either shills posting a generic list, anecdotal evidence a la "I sometimes go out in a light drizzle and one time I dropped it and it still works so it's rugged enough for you too" or the hands-on reviews basically just mention that "weatherproofing" is on the stat sheet. Is there a site where people torture-test cameras? Does anyone have recommendations? Are there any IPX-1 or better DSLRs that don't require selling organs to acquire?
On the other hand a local brick-and-mortar has an EOS 6D with cables and two lenses for <$500 so I might just pull the trigger on that and maybe move up to a big boy camera later if I break it or decide to get more serious about photography.
