Dear /p/,
my intention is to build an IR camera, to be used with an IR torch for night-vision purposes. As far as I have understood it should be possible by removing the IR filter lens from the camera.
I have a olympus m tough 8000, which I just disassembled, and reassembled as I ran into a problem: I'm not sure how to identify the IR filter. The IR filter as far as I know should have a blue hue.
My main suspect is the lowest lens in the picture which has a red hue. I did not proceed further as the lens cell seems to be fairly intricate and complex, and as I had no knowledge of which one I should and could take without breaking everything.
My questions are: how can I reliably identify the IR filter, and secondly how safe is it to proceed with the disassembly of the the lens cell as a total amateur with cameras?
If this is the wrong place to ask, I'm eager to listen to suggestions.
Kind regards
/k/ommando
