There is the very common saying that "Gear doesn't matter". but doesn't it? in certain situations and style of photography, it very much matters, right? For an example(although I am pretty new) I like Macro photography, and I went from this quality (pic related) on a point and shoot with a close-up filter, to this quality (pic below) with a DSLR and a dedicated macro lens. and I'm sure there are some cameras/phones, out there that don't even have the possibility to take macro at all.
