>>4024831>>4027098Proud owner of an MVC-FD73 and MVC-FD75 here. Both are literally sitting on my desk as I write this cause I love them, and I just took my FD75 out for a spin today, even though I usually use the FD73 cause the reactions I get when I tell people my digital camera is from the 1990's are great. They are beautiful machines and I'm incredibly lucky to have a working original NP-F550. Taken well over a thousand pictures with the FD73 just over the last few months alone, and I can confidently say that floppy mavicas are just about the perfect level of so bad they're good. They got just enough resolution to be somewhat usable (looking at you, Gameboy Camera), but also at 640x480 it's hard to get much worse. Colors are decent, and they can handle most lighting conditions about as well as you could expect, and oftentimes better than you migth think. Additionally, unlike other similarly aged cameras like the Cybershot DSC-F1, floppy Mavicas just use straight up 3.5" Floppy Disks, so any USB drive should be able to take them and put em directly onto a modern pc (I use a USB floppy drive that's old as shit and still works on my Win11 laptop). And right now, they're at the point where most people are just throwing em out like most other late '90s early 2000's tech, so anywhere online you can find them they'll probably be within the $30 range for a working camera, or if you're lucky like me, $10 at an estate sale with floppies and a case included. So many people I know love mym shitty fucking camera, I love my shitty fucking camera, and I've genuinely had some of those typical "hot" girls ask me to take their picture with my shitty fucking camera. I just cannot stress enough how much I adore my cameras. Sure, I hope that one day they'll become popular, cause if the reactions of my friend group (and others) are anything to go by, it's certainly got an appeal to a lot of people. But for now, I'm fine being the odd one out. Mavica Man out.
