After a ten year hiatus from photography (apart from phone snapshits) I have decided I want to get back in the game. I don't have any of my old gear left, so I need to rebuild my setup.
What should I get, and in what order? I'm not a professional, so there's a limit to what is reasonable to spend. I mainly want to do landscapes, and pictures of my dog. Then later maybe nature macros, or get into perspective control.
My first reaction was to start looking for fast wide angle primes, but they're pretty expensive and not very versatile. Perhaps I should get a basic wide angle zoom like the Canon EF 17-40/4L USM to get my feet wet, figure out what focal length I tend towards and buy a fast prime for that. Or maybe it turns out I don't even need anything fast for my use.
Also, what's the third party market like these days?
