Beach volleyball tournaments are typically on...wait for it...public beaches. Nobody is policing photographers because they couldn't if they wanted to. A team might have their own hired photographer there, but as long as you're not going on the "court" or interfering with the games, nobody gives a fuck. Same for surfing which is shot from a public beach. I shot from all around those games, you need permission to be in the water but not on the beach or pier. The reason that one is cropped (2.1x and still solid at 16x20 btw) is because I was out of position at that moment.
