Then I found out the newer ones until about 2008 look just like it. Was it a ploy by Canon to make people buy the L lenses? I'm amazed that my own lens looks like it could be from the late 2000s. Pic related was made until 2008.
Nikon ones didn't look as ugly, not even the plastic kit 18-55mm.
