Canon is trying to tell you Sony were right all along.

They couldn't compete in lens image quality unless they went mirrorless, and that's what Canon had to do.

Nah, see here for image quality for example.
Build quality is all metal with the rubber gaskets, and the 90mm had hardstop focus ring as well.

It's because0 you always downplay everything Canon is bad at.

For example the softness of the EF F/1.2 lenses, they were never critisized by you, the softness was touted like a feature of sorts.
Now that the softness has been fixed, you herald Sharpness as the greatest star of it all.

The new F1.2 is much more expensive than Sony's lens.

It's an old lens that is only sharp in the smallest centerr at F1,4. Same with Nikon's.

This is why they are both making a new 50mm for their mirrorless, to catch up to Sony and Sigma.

Sony's 50mm F1,4 is a lot more exceptional wide open.
