There's a lot to get angry about here in Australia when it comes to the issue of refugees, as our successive national governments have been quite prepared to spend millions of taxpayers' dollars to confine asylum seekers in detention camps on islands well away from the country - in one instance, all for the sake of a single applicant waiting in years-long limbo for his claim to be processed - and also paying people-smugglers to turn their overloaded boats around and return their desperate passengers to hellhole holding camps in Malaysia and Indonesia. So, don't throw any shade at me. Make the effort to meet and speak with anyone who has thrown his or her entire life up into the air to get away from a truly terrifying situation in their own countries, as I have, and learn something about being human. (Pic related was made at an emergency medical clinic on the Thai-Burma border twelve years ago. This man had lost his eyesight to malaria and his arm to a landmine.)
