>>3095224Actually, art is "inter-subjective". Meaning that it is capable of acting as an objective medium for thoughts and ideas that are otherwise only subjectively accessible. Precisely for this reason (viz., art is an attempt to create universally- or at least collectively- accessible forms of individual experiences) the function of art CAN and MUST be understood and discussed in objective terms. If it were not so, it would be impossible both to assess the successes and failures of artistic undertakings, as well as to improve artistic forms themselves. Repeating the hackneyed phrase "art is subjective" is simply an excuse to avoid the difficult work of thinking about art and, moreover, of comprehensibly if not persuasively formulating and presenting these thoughts to other people. If anything, it signifies that your own thoughts and feelings about art--rather than art itself--are stultifyingly subjective.
