They are manufactured a little more old school because apple isn't funding their chinese factories, so almost every part is larger than it could be, but this stuff could be half the size if they switched to pouch batteries and internal SSDs over plastic shelled battery packs and memory cards.
Pouch batteries and internal SSDs can still be user serviceable, they're just not hot-swappable.
As for the 35mm cameras they're just big for no technical reason because a sideways battery and a couple of microSDs is pretty easy to pack into existing body designs. Cameras sized like the Z8 and canon EOS R series is just the industry being myopic about its customer base and only seeing the customers they already have (photo agencies) and not the customers they could have (all the snapshitting normies responsible for sony and then fuji's meteoric growth)
