im not gonna like I am 100% an editor, not a colorist and certainly not a video operator, but as it goes I'm wearing the video op hat again on top of editing with a Sony a7iii and my video looks like shit.
this is how its supposed to look
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg2xQArMEqEpic is mine. they don't like the bokeh, nor a more standard 3 point light set up. we're also shooting in a spare bedroom, and they're shooting in a stu. I have access to enough equipment though that I shouldn't have such a hard time getting it close.
When we have more space to use I think I could a) go telephoto, b) bring subject closer to cam, c) try to sneak in standard 3 point lighting, d) pull the lights further back from subject, e) dont use the underwater white balance by accident
Also, when I used to do photography on a Sony system I would use zebras and the focus finding effect, but I've found it doesn't work quite the same in video. For example, leaving a little bit of zebra in the frame results in a much more blown out image than a photo, and despite zooming in to dial in my focus I end up pulling the lens wide again to a much less sharp image.
im struggling because this sony camera is a 6 pedals-4 so any routine you go through to quickly dial in a good shot would be appreciated. Also, is a white balance card going to be worth it? AWB always seems to come out green.
