You dont want any more pixel density or you sacrifice low light performance and induce more noise. The idea is that each pixel is sampled from a larger region of the sensor and thus captures more light over a denser pixel sample, like say 36 or 48MP sampled from the same sensor size.
So if we assume 24MP is the sweet spot for full frame, you can use the same maths you use to work out cross format focal lengths and apertures to determine what the other format's ideal pixel density is. 12MP for MFt. 18MP for APSC and 48MP for Medium format. So, how is it the new GH6 can somehow get twice the pixel density out of a sensor that ideally should be half what it is yet actually performs on par with a lot of apsc cameras with the same pixel count? I dont know. Software magic I suppose?
