>>3157641Thanks, it's one of my favorite episodes too.
>>3157652I'm sorry I won't be of any help, I had everything arranged by an Iranian agent.
I only stopped in Tehran for a few hours to catch a flight south, to Bushehr.
It's mostly just sand and ocean, so while it was really novel to me, It's not the most interesting place to stay for longer periods. What I hear from friends who have actually holidayed there, is that the mountain areas in the north is where it's at. It looks amazing for sure.
People in general were super friendly, as I wrote in the thread we were practically adopted by a qt we met on the domestic flight, who took us around for drives, restaurant visits and road trips. If you are able to get friendly with someone you'll probably have a lot better of a time than strictly solo travelling. People in general don't like to be taken pictures of, so I'd not do that unless you have some people skills.
I was hunted down on the street by police officers who had heard there was a foreigner walking around taking pictures, and they tried to interrogate me without speaking English, which was tricky and extremely uncomfortable. They forced me to give them my details, wrote them down and tried to get me to sign an affidavit, which I refused to do since I couldn't understand a word of it. Things were getting really tense, until a shop owner who spoke English came and helped me out, assured me I wasn't in any trouble, and the document was just a statement that I had been in contact with the police. I ended up signing it, reluctantly, and didn't have any more issues with the police after. This was on the same day as the terror attack in Tehran, so people were extra on edge.
It's impossible to use foreign credit cards in ATMs, so make sure to bring plenty of cash, and as always in places like this, keep it in at least two different places. Many people speak at least basic English, and will do their best to understand you.
