Used to work at a camera shop for an even longer time, and saw all kinds of weather damage / repairs. Enough to think that anecdotes online like
>>4269834, and even mine here, are essentially meaningless. Weather resistant is not weather proof, but it's also not nothing. More robust weather sealed cameras still fail, and cameras without any resistance can still survive getting drenched. If you're smart about your gear, you'll be fine. If you're dumb with your gear, you can kill any model.
