>Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for $600
Pros: focal length I could get a lot of use for, a pretty wide aperture means I can take photos in darker conditions, focusing distance is very good at 30cm. Renowned for ultra-high quality photos and bokeh.
Cons: prime lens, 1.4 isn't a giant difference from 1.8
>Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 for $800
Pros: very versatile focal range, including 30mm which I could get a lot of use for. Great maximum aperture. Focusing distance is excellent (22cm). Covers the gap I have between 16mm and 50mm. I'm also a slut for zoom lenses which don't expand/rotate, it's all internal.
Cons: it's $200 more and I already have a 1.8 lens
Which do I buy?
