>>3181546Sorry, didn't mean to turn you away from post processing (although focusing on getting things perfect in camera first is a solid idea), I'm just way over-complicated sometimes. Here's a much more simple guide to getting the look you want.
- create a new channel mixer adjustment layer and choose the preset "black and white from blue channel"
- create a new curve adjustment layer and make the curve shown in the attached image (reduce the opacity of the curve adjustment layer if the contrast is too strong)
- hit control+alt+shift+e to make a copy of the image on a new layer
- on the new layer you just made, change the blending mode to soft light and run the high pass filter (found under filters > other > high pass) then increase the radius until you see the level of detail you want, then decrease the opacity until it doesn't look overdone.
If that's still intimidating, just use Silver Effex and try out the different presets. Anything mentioning "blue channel" will be going in the right direction.
