OP, I bought a 5D Classic and two L lenses in my first year of college by not being an idiot with finances and learning how to save money.
That being said, I have seen D40s and 400d, 350d and similar entry-level DSLRs for under 100 dollars on Craigslist. They aren't bad cameras and you'll learn the basics on them. My 400d taught me the basics and I'll be damned if I ever get rid of it.
