>>4455415It's not just sharpness. Often less-sharp lenses have more "3d pop" than sharper lenses. Micro-contrast really does seem to be the answer, which a lot of modern and very sharp lenses don't do a very good job at.
The Sigma DP Merrill cameras perhaps have the greatest 3D pop of any other camera/lens combination I've seen. The lens absolutely outresolves the sensor, allowing each photosite (with full color depth - no interpolation) to distinctly represent its own sample without "spillover" of the same details that's shared with other photosites.
