OP: use the camera, buy cheap C41 film from ebay (preferably XP2 black and white for drug-store labs, they generally fuck up the colour balance and it will put you off film. find a pro lab like RPL or RDFL for colour work, its expensive but worth every cent IMO.
when you progress a little, look into developing, scanning and using a darkroom. its an investment but its what makes the whole process worthwhile
HOWEVER.. I think first you should get a digital camera to use in tandem. nothing crazy, but a nice used/factory second DSLR or mirrorless camera + an adapter so you can use your current glass and save a little money. learn the exposure triangle, learn about the limitations of both cameras. shoot plenty and take notes
read books for advice on technique. forget forums, they will just tell you to buy more gear than you actually need.
