They pioneered the first instant manual SLR in the SX-70, large format Polaroids used by Ansel Adams and others. They even pioneered the first autofocus systems with sonar autofocus. Some of the most famous photographers in history used and loved Polaroid. And the emulsion/colours still look incredible. Polaroid pushed photography forward a metric fuckton as well as funding tons of masters to produce great work.
Instax is a cheap clone made by Fuji. The prints come out cold and sterile. It's cheaper per print but I've never seen an Instax shot I've really liked.
If you're too young to appreciate the massive legacy Polaroid left behind that's cool, maybe just stick to your Sony A6000 that's gathering dust in the corner.
