The basics for me, when trying to get something that "looks like film" is first give a slight rolloff of highlights and raise shadows quite a bit. I crush blacks slightly and add a slight color grade pushing warmth in highlights and making shadows a little cooler. This all depends on the aesthetic you are going for, and what it is you want from a photograph.
These aren't rules, but loose guidelines. Unless you are a wedding photog blasting off thousands and thousands of photographs per week, I'd avoid creating and reusing your own presets too much. It'll help you learn grading, and train your eye for what best serves the photograph.
