The bodies seem to be metal and plastic...but remember that plastic can be super thick and durable. I literally have been throwing my bronica into backpacks with no padding and lugging it all around North America and Asia. It has paint chips and the like, but it has zero dents or broken pieces.
Ya, there is a 135W back for it and ya it's dumb expensive. I lucked into finding one for $30 in Vietnam and it's a lot of fun to use. You can actually buy the much cheaper 135N back and modify the film gate to shoot Pano. You wind up getting 18 frames on a roll of 36exp instead of the 24 frames you get on the actual 135W back.
