>>4074833Taking this in good faith because maybe you're not schizoposting.
You're never going to get jailed, don't be such a fuckin baby.
As long as you're not shooting someone who is actually capable of starting a fight (very, very few people) you won't get in fights either.
But if you really can't get over that anxiety, face the fact that street isn't for you.
If you're just regular nervous (which is fair!) I'd suggest:
- Framing up first and wait for someone to walk through the shot. One, it gives you time to consider the environment. Two, it makes any subject feel way less weirded out/stalked. You'll sometimes get people apologising to you for walking into your shot.
- Starting with situations where people are putting themselves on display. Parades, protests, street performers and the like.
- Use a wider lens and don't frame the subject in the centre.
- Use the smallest suitable camera and lens you have available. It's one area where the technical sacrifices of a crop sensor or even phone are worth it.
Shit to avoid unless you really know what you're doing:
- Kids unless you chat to the parents first.
- People you find attractive if you feel like a creep.
- The homeless, unless you chat to them first.
- Eating.
- Intimacy.
It's never about hiding the fact that you're taking a photo. What you're doing isn't dirty or wrong. It's about making people comfortable. Being furtive makes it worse. Don't uses a massive tele.
