Hey guys, I recently found an old Olympus Movie 8 VX-82-KU vhs camera in front of someone's house. It was in a camera bag along with a set of batteries and a lot of accessories. I rang at the man's door and he said it was to give away and told me I could take it. It's a 1991 camera compatible with 8mm videocassettes. The guide says "recordings made in the Hi8 format cannot be played back by this unit. So I decided to order some 8mm tapes from ebay and to test the camera since everything else seemed to work. I bought some Sony 8 mm Brilliant Color and Sound (Standard) MP videocassettes (120min). I just tested it and the first times, the camera wouldn't accept the tape. It works when I try to record but whenever I try to play the tape back, I can't see shit but horizontal stripes and a black and white background. I tried connecting the camera to my TV and playback the tape but same result. It's like the camera cannot record on it or something. Any expert on VHS cameras willing to help a nigga out? Are the tapes the problem or is it the camera? Where can I find tapes in this format other than on the internet? Unfortunately I can't take pictures to properly illustrate what I'm seeing when playing back the tape.
tl;dr: found a VHS camera that uses 8mm tapes, bought Sony 8mm tapes off ebay, doesn't seem to work.
