The result is an image of the metal coaster/spring thing (like the one on the extreme left of OP pic with the 2 screws, but the one on the opposite side.)
What this means is that in principle:
> open the device
> remove the two metal coasters
> (maybe) remove or push out the front side of the film stage to allow for a bigger negative
> turn off the lights, scan
then you can scan 120 film with this thing in 4 passes in a dark room (i think it would take 6 passes if you want the ""artistic""" borders
