It's in the flexibility, depending on the situation.
If the Quadbayer Sensor sees low-light condition, it can merge the 2x2 clusters together and for a giant pixel with lower resolution which acts as regular Bayer.
If the Quadbayer Sensor sees bright light condition, it will split its 2x2 pixels apart and record in higher resolution.
This is impossible to achieve for X-tran.
