Some time back a youtube (LGR maybe?) took pics on a mavica floppy disk camera and people in the comments were remarking that their phones couldnt do as well.
Regardless of the numerical (ostensible) superiority of the modern sensors, there are definitely subtleties of the old sensors and how the image processing was tuned that can give them a pleasing look.
