Do's
-Have a plan. No models want to be waiting around. Draw out your shots just to get some ideas down. Go location scouting so you know where the fuck you're going.
-Since you don't do this often, let the model know that. Chances are they don't model often either and just have done it casually with their friends with cameras.
-Joke around. Talk to them. Make them feel comfortable. Especially while you're setting up for your camera and lighting.
DO NOT...
-Be insecure. Be confident in yourself. I've assisted on so many cringe-fests with my classmates that aren't confident enough. This is where letting them know you're still learning can come in handy as they understand that.
-Forget gear. It happens, I get it. I've almost had disasters by not bringing shit that I should have. Spare cards, flash triggers, batteries batteries batteries.
-Don't let the model control the shoot. Let them play around, and feed off of their spontaneity, but don't let them not take you seriously and control the shoot. Be weary of this if they bring their best friend along for the shoot.
-Don't be a fucking cunt.
That's all I got for now.
