I think the 80S and the IR400 (=retro 400) are underrated films. They make for excellent TMax 100 and TMax 400 replacements, you sacrifice 1 stop of speed (pulling a bit to get similar contrast), but gain noticeably finer grain, 30%-50% lower price, you can shoot proper IR with them (SFX200 is a scam in comparison) and they dry absolutely flat. Also they could potentially make for great slides due to the clear base. I want to try some reversal processing with them, if I find some dichromate bleach. EU regulations fucked things up with dichromate. Permanganate also works but Is fickle as fuck and can go bad within a day.
With regards to grain though they’re impressive - a 3800dpi (true optical measured res) can hardly resolve the grain of 80S in XTol.
Not that grain matters that much, but small grain it’s nice to have as an option if you need it.
