The 16mm f/1.4 is argubly Fuji's best lens. The absurdly close focusing means you can use it as a macro, it's a nice wide angle useful for travel, and yes the f/1.4 lets a lot of light in. The bokeh is pleasant but that's not what I use the lens for. It works well for night photography.
It is expensive but it's a bargain compared to fast 24mm primes in other systems. It's basically welded onto my X-H1 and I never take it off.
In your use case, though, it sounds like the f/2.8 is a better fit. That said lenses hold their value extremely well, so its not a gamble to buy one and see if you like it, then resell it.
