Either way, I'd argue there are still pros to using the filter instead of adding it in post. You could theoretically emulate a circular polarizer in post, it's just going to take a lot of time and effort compared to if you shot with the filter. More time and effort than emulating the glow I'm sure, but if you know you want that effect, why spend the extra time and effort compensating for the clipping while shooting, and then editing it in at the end?
