Smaller sensors tend to be more efficient, so IF you can give them the same total light by shooting at equivalent settings you will get a cleaner shot.
The idea that larger sensor cameras are better in darker settings is ONLY true if you shoot both at the same aperture - which you won't. f.14 equiv is 2.8 on FF.
