So my gf and I are subsidizing our income selling videos online and we're looking to improve our setup. Currently we film on an older Sony nex7 with a 35mm/f1.8 prime lens and are looking for a pretty big bump in performance to better meet custom video requests. Right now our buget is roughly $5k for a camera body and glass, and $2500 for a tripod, gimbal (if necessary),lighting, and a mic.
We currently shoot about 60% POV handheld and 40% on a tripod with a ratio of about 80/20 indoor/outdoor. Low light is pretty common but we're hoping to improve that as we work with lighting. That being said, there will be times where ambient light will be all that's available. 4k/30fps is a must, 4k/60 a plus, and we're not really worried about stills.
Right now we're thinking getting a Sony a7sii in a month or so since prices are dropping a little with the a7siii release with Sony's 16-35mm/f2.8 g lens, and two Gopro8's to supplement. Will this work okay with our goals? We're worried about working handheld and uptight with the a7sii, and that it's also 5 years old now. Should we be concerned? Or bang-for-our-buck would we better off with a prosumer camcorder?
