It's fucking insane.This is just a matter of changing jpeg compression levels and color subsampling. If you use 4:2:2 sampling and 90% compression you will easily get a 5000x5000 image under 5mb with a very minimal loss of detail.
pic is /p/'s recommended size compared to 4k. Even viewing full size 1x1 you would only fill a fraction of your screen. 4k monitors are becoming more common and if you are photographer you should own one.
Note also this image is a .png because it represents only two colors with no gradations, and it is smaller than the equivalent jpg file using 100% compression level. If you know how to work with the various image formats and compression algorithms you can still have large image sizes while maintaining convenient file sizes.
