Leica writes about comparing their digital sensors to others:

The problem with this comes with wide angle lenses (which are pretty much the main staple of the rangefinder camera). Towards the corner of the frame the angle of incidence of the light rays coming from the rear of the lens can be so severely off-perpendicular that they won't pass equally through the microlenses above the sensor, which can lead to fairly strong vignetting. Even a modest wide angle lens at this kind of distance could produce a difference of a stop or two between the center of the frame and the edges using a standard sensor.

This is part of why the same lens in attached pic makes such a shit picture on a Sony A7 compared to when it's mounted on a Leica. The Sony sensor is adapted to rays with a steeper angle of incidence.

Film doesn't have this problem since its "sensing" doesn't work like that.

The optical path of light from scene to sensor is going to be identical among native lenses and the ones using this type of adapter.

I agree that it may be an easier optical problem to design a lens with a shorter flange distance, but I don't think that is waht you are saying???

also i still dont understand why pic related happens.
