There's a more complicated history to the churches of south Alabama than someone of your total disinterest would have ever encountered. This is the way with most histories. They're diminished and adapted for convenience's sake.
To you, being native is something exotic, and in your head, anything that does not match with the exotic (see: post-horse western tribes that dominate media, not the five tribes and their love of fine cloth) must be fake.
Have you ever heard of adoption? Churches? The Odd Fellows Society? Mormonism? Kill the Indian and save the child? Ever heard of a Melungeon? Do you know anything about the Ottoman-Croatian galley slaves the Spanish marooned in the Carolinas or what came of their descendents? Do you even care?
