Of course I could just go to some public place and start shooting everyone I see and learn through mistakes, but I want to hear 4channel's opinion on how to get good before I go out and waste everyone's time with my shitty amateur portraits. How to control people, how to make people look good, how to keep it natural, etc. I know the technical side of portrait photography, but the "social" side is a mystery to me.
