Gear-doesn't-matterfags, from what I've seen on /p/, tell people that the elements that make for aesthetically pleasing photos are primarily detached from the gear they use. Composition, exposure, color theory, etc aren't copyrighted by a specific camera vendor and aren't only accessible at the top end of the vendor product line. I haven't seen any that say "having all that gear is stupid and you're stupid for having it". I think most of that group understands that gear is a tool and better tools make for quicker work.
There is a subset of gearfags that are overly sensitive about other's perception of what gear they have and how that reflects on their skill. That makes up most of the trolling in gear threads.
