>>3145869>>3145852So I'll explain this thoroughly once, because maybe I'll help one less person from sounding like a total fucking moron whilst forking over $2k for some meme L-lense in a camera shop one day.
People that complain about this are total noobs who have just spent what they perceive to be a lot of money on a fast lense.
They shoot it wide open all the time.
They "miss focus" a lot because they don't understand how their AF system works, or how a plane of focus works, or how even excellent lenses will look pretty ordinary at infinity wide open, even with correct focus.
Actual inaccuracy in final achieved focus will more often be the result of shooting focus priority from a large defocus, and the lense overspeeding. With fast primes often having heavy focusing elements, they won't always stop dead nuts at the point where the motor stops running. If it's allowed to adjust from there, it should make a smaller adjustment to correct itself, but if you've just mashed the shutter button, it will fire just after the lense passes through the point of actual phase alignment. If you shoot AF-C, or back button AF, or start with the focus already in the ballpark, you'll find it to be no more or less accurate than any other lense with that camera, and probably faster.
