People can go on for hours talking about how to get close to deer, but a lot of it is overthinking.
Look for tracks and droppings. If you see some, you will see deer again at that spot eventually, grazing or traveling. Follow game trails until you find a spot you like that has good lighting, and set up in some brush, preferably downwind so they don't catch your scent.
That's about it. You can go full stalker mode if you want, but this is the simplest way.
Winter is the best time to find out where deer go, as well. Follow the prints in the snow.
